Win the chance to perform a concerto with the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra in our June 2019 concert!

Applications are open to regular ERSO members.  We are also pleased to accept applications from anyone over 18 who has played in at least one concert with ERSO in the 2018/19 season (including rehearsals).   See our rehearsal schedule for concert & rehearsal dates.   All orchestral instruments are eligible.

If you are not a regular ERSO member, please contact us to discuss which of next season’s concerts you might play in and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Applicants should send a CV to with a covering letter stating the concerto they would perform should they win the competition.  Please include the orchestration for this concerto.

Choice of repertoire is free, but applicants are asked to remember that ERSO is an amateur orchestra and that works with very large orchestration or which are outside of the standard repertoire may not be suitable.

ERSO reserve the right not to audition all applicants if they do not appear to be suitable.

Auditions will be held at Camden School for Girls at the end of March/start of April 2019 (dates to be confirmed).

Candidates will be asked to perform part of one movement of their chosen concerto at the auditions which will be accompanied by piano and judged by a Panel of ERSO Committee members and the conductor Christopher Stark.   There are no entry fees for the competition.  You may bring your own accompanist or ERSO can engage a professional pianist which will be at the candidate’s expense.

We will communicate the result of the auditions to all candidates and will provide feedback if requested.

Up to 4 Finalists will be selected to work on their concerto with ERSO and Chris Stark at the Final which will be an open rehearsal on 12th May 2019.

The winner will rehearse with Chris and ERSO over the remainder of the scheduled rehearsals (19 May and 2 and 9 June) and perform the concerto in our 16th June concert, which will be a part of the Waterloo Arts and Music Festival.  They will also receive a prize of £100.
