Principal Conductor of ERSO for over twenty years, Peter has conducted a number of the world’s leading ensembles including London Symphony Orchestra, Hallé, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and English Chamber Orchestra. He has assisted many of the world’s finest conductors including Pierre Boulez, Sir Colin Davis, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Sir Roger Norrington and Klaus Tennstedt.
Peter’s reputation as a teacher and trainer is renowned. He is Professor of Conducting at the Royal College of Music in London and Rehearsal Director of the European Union Youth Orchestra. Peter was also pleased to be Conductor-in-Residence with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for many years. In 2015 he gave masterclasses at the State Conservatory in St Petersburg, and at the China Conservatory, Beijing.
An increasing interest in media work was originally inspired by his involvement in BBC 2’s series Maestro when, as Series Consultant he presided over the teaching of eight celebrity ‘students’. A second series was produced in 2012, Maestro at the Opera. Peter also featured on BBC 4 as a ‘Maestro Cam’ expert for BBC Promenade concerts.
