We are thrilled to announce our new Assistant Conductor – Chloe Lu Ye.

Chloe is a Chinese born, British conductor. Her interest in music began from attending orchestral concerts at a young age, which inspired her to begin learning the cello at the age of seven, going on to study with Elaine Ackers and Richard Jenkinson. Whilst studying Music at the University of Birmingham she majored in film composition, specialising in the works of Bernard Herrmann, and it was through directing and performing her own compositions that her initial interest in conducting arose. After graduating she founded the Ashdown Sinfonia orchestra performing concerts in London, and she is continuing her conducting studies with Martyn Brabbins and Jessica Cottis.
Chloe is currently the Assistant Conductor of the Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Youth Orchestra, and has performed with them at venues including BBC Hoddinott Hall, as well as at the European String Teachers Association International Conference. Chloe is keen to promote under-represented composers, and to feature works that have been overlooked. She has worked with a number of composers to premiere and record new compositions.
Notable performances include conducting the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in a concert showcasing young conductors. She has worked with the English Symphony String Orchestra in a masterclass at the Elgar Festival, and following her performance she was invited to become a young ambassador of the Elgar Society. Chloe has assisted Jessica Cottis conducting the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra and Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra, and also guest conducted performances with orchestras including the Amati Orchestra.
Chloe has worked with the New Note Orchestra, a recovery orchestra, which combines her enthusiasm for music with her desire to use music to reach out to people and help communities. She assisted on their collaborative project with the Fallen Angels Dance Theatre company, making their debut with a new work Traces Through Time at the Royal Opera House’s Lindbury Theatre. Chloe is also keen to advocate for the performance of dance with live music and has worked closely with a dance school to provide such opportunities for students.
