Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Ana Sinkovec Burstin is an international prize-winning pianist. She is the holder of five Masters degrees from conservatoires in Ljubljana, Brussels, Bergamo and Paris, and has won multiple awards, including First Prize at the Nikolai Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Paris. In 2004, whilst still a student, Ana was awarded the Prešeren Prize, the highest Slovenian award for Achievements in Culture, by the country’s Academy of Music. She has made several recordings with the Slovenian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra of lesser known works for piano and orchestra, as well as solo recordings of new pieces by her Slovenian composer counterparts.
Ana has been invited to perform as a soloist and chamber musician at music festivals across Europe, including Buxton (UK), the Chopin Festival (Italy and Sweden), Emil Gilels Festival and Lindau Festival (Germany), Mahler Music Festival (Italy) and Nights in Ljubljana (Slovenia). She has appeared as soloist with the Slovenian Philharmonic and Slovenian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestras, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra (Israel), the Zagreb Soloists (Croatia), and the Multicamerata Chamber group (Poland), working with conductors including Peter Stark, Frederic Chaslin, Loris Voltolini, Simon Krečič and Samuel Burstin.
Ana made her London debut at St John’s, Smith Square in January 2013 with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and the Paradisal Players, with whom she
returned to the same venue in June 2016 to play Rachmaninoff’s Piano
Concerto No. 3. In November 2015 Ana made her US debut playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano
Concerto No. 1 with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra, following a solo debut at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C., where she premiered the Slovenian piece Toccata by Žiga Stanič.
Ana is passionate about teaching and inspiring younger generations. She was a Junior Fellow of Piano at Trinity Laban in London, where she coached and accompanied musicians from all departments, and in 2012 she gave a Ted x talk entitled Music and the Mind. She is mother to two little girls.
